Subjects Taught

I first graduated as a speech therapist in 2004 at Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Spain. After a few years working and learning from everyday’ experiences, my colleagues and my wonderful mentor, I decided to start my learning journey. I wanted to improve my English Skills and my teaching skills. I moved to Cardiff, the beautiful small capital city of Wales, UK.

It was an amazing learning experince, which help me learned many things that I am applying right now within my classroom. It was a very enrichment experience that made me understand the importance of a cultural exchange.

Then, back  in Spain I realized that my heart was in the classroom. So  in 2008, I graduated as an Elementary teacher at the University of Camilo Jose Cela, and in 2012, I graduated as an English teacher. On December 2016, I earned my Master degree in TESOL at Greensboro College, NC.

I have been a proud teacher for the past 8 years. I love teaching and everything related to teach.

I see myself as a versatile educator, I have had the opportunity to instruct a wide variety of students from various backgrounds and facets of society. I have had the opportunity to hold a number of professional roles including ESL teacher, Spanish teacher, and Speech Therapist Teacher.

As a result, I have become compassionate and like helping students to find their true potential.

Being a Speech Therapist has helped me understand the language acquisition process, and how to advance students with scaffolding activities and comprehensible input. Teaching English taught me how to work on educational theories and find ways to apply to get the best results, such as extensive modeling, simplify language and activities using authentic materials, engaging students in conversation about academic content that include language functions, and exploring learning strategies that benefit my students.

Right now, I am a Spanish immersion teacher in Wilson County. This is going to be my fourth year within the program.  On my first year working for Wilson County Schools I taught first grade, and for the past three years I have taught second grade. I am very excited about having the opportunity of being in another Country, learning about a different culture and various ways of teaching. I could not being more grateful.

My name is María Madrid, and I am actually from Madrid, Spain.

I am 34 years old, and I have been a proud teacher for the past 8 years.  I have taught in my beautiful country, which is Spain. Also in England, and now in the United States. I have loved each part of my teaching journey, and I am happy to say that this will be my 4th year within the Spanish Immersion program in Wilson County schools.

I love teaching and everything related to teach. Definitely, teaching and learning are two of my biggest passions.
